OXNARD, Calif. – The Dallas Cowboys released running back Ryan Williams on Tuesday. He is one of the higher ranked undrafted running backs out there and this could signal a change with the Cowboys that if a running back is seen as ineffective like Williams has been then they will go in a different direction.

That said, few people were sold on the likes of Joseph Randle and free-agent signing Darren McFadden making up the difference.
If the Johnson-Cowboys rumors sound familiar, they should; CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora wrote earlier this month that several NFL executives brought up Dallas as a possible landing spot for Johnson. Another player that could end up in “Big D” is former Baltimore Ravens duel-threat back Ray Rice.
“But, the source said, “[You] never know what will happen in a couple weeks”. And that list could include Chris Johnson, the former Titans first-round pick who struggled with the Jets last season and remains unsigned. He was the 2014 Southland Conference player of the year, setting a school record with 23 touchdowns. Johnson accounted for 84.1 percent of SFA’s rushing yards, and 95.8 percent of rushing touchdowns in the run game.
Dallas also signed center Ronald Patrick while releasing linebacker Cameron Lawrence and tackle Ryan Miller.
The 72-year-old Jones will be at the team’s annual state of the union address Wednesday to kick off training camp.

This marks the 27th season at the Cowboys helm for Jones.
