Bob Dylan’s Fender Returns To Newport Folk Festival For 50th Anniversary

“[Dylan’s guitar] is such an important part of musical history, and Dylan was our generation’s Shakespeare, so it’s our way to give back and share”, Irsay said of the loan. The performance drew a mix of boos and cheers from the audience, from some who were thrilled by the performance and others who felt abandoned by someone who until then had been best known for singing protest songs with an acoustic guitar. Musicians at the festival have been invited to play it. The guitar was sold to the owner of the Indianapolis Colts for almost $1 million in 2013.
The curator of Irsay’s guitar assortment introduced the instrument to the pageant…. However, a tribute to Dylan will close the festival today (July 26), with a secret lineup of almost a dozen artists that will not be unveiled until the acts appear on stage.
It has not been played in public for 50 years.
50 years later Bob Dylan didn’t show at the Newport Folk Festival 2015 but they honored him anyways.
