Ukraine says Russian officer detained when truckload of weapons intercepted
Ukraine’s border guards service said in a statement cited by Ukrainian media that border guards were forbidden from firing into Russian territory, and that an inspection carried out following the reports showed that no ammunition was missing and no other signs of a shooting were detected.

The border service said that Ukrainian legislation primarily banned the border guards from opening the fire in the direction of the neighboring country. Another man who was detained identified himself as a pro-Russian separatist fighter. “An armed man in fatigues came up to them from the Ukrainian side to a distance of about 30 meters and shouted ‘Stop, ‘” Markin said.
Savchenko is accused of direct participation in the killing of two Russian reporters who died last year while covering the conflict in Ukraine.
The lawyer said that Russkiy, who volunteered to fight in Donbas and was appointed by separatists as the “mayor”, or the “commander”, of the town of Lutuhyne, was questioned by Russian investigators and testified that Savchenko allegedly was captured after 13.00 on June 17, 2014, and while the defense team says that she was captured not later than 11.00.
A spokesman said the two men may have taken a wrong direction and driven toward Ukrainian forces manning a checkpoint southwest of the rebel-controlled city of Donetsk by mistake.
Though a fragile ceasefire seems to be holding, more than 6,500 people have been killed in the conflict in Ukraine’s industrialized Russian-speaking east. Moscow denies Western accusations it is backing the rebels with arms and soldiers. But he admitted that he was a chief of an RAO (rocket-artillery weapons unit). He is responsible for ammunition supply.
