Anthony Joshua beats Charles Martin, claims IBF world heavyweight title

“Me, Tyson Fury and David Haye we have to fight”, Joshua told a news conference.

The attempts to counter the one-dimensional style Joshua has previously shown which Martin had promised never materialised, owing to the fact the challenger’s speed and reflexes were superior.

Whether they all fight on the same night remains to be seen, but Joshua definitely won’t be facing Fury next. With 1:45 remaining in the round Joshua came straight on walking down the back pedaling Martin, seven seconds later he drilled him with another right hand, sending him to the canvass for a second time in an nearly carbon copy of the first knock down.

Following the win, Joshua said he would take on all comers in the heavyweight division.

Anthony Joshua has his eyes on a future showdown with Tyson Fury after winning the IBF world heavyweight title on Saturday with a sensational second-round knockout of outclassed American rival Charles Martin.

It was Charles Martin first title defense since he won the title in January. “Why am I going to lower myself to his level?”

“Getting there is one thing, now maintaining it will be harder so I need to be a bit more disciplined”, Joshua said.

Joshua walked to the ring in white robes in a tribute to his childhood idol Muhammad Ali while “Prince Charles” Martin made his entrance to the arena with a crown on his head, but he would lose his confident swagger and the title within just six minutes. Martin gingerly rose to his feet inside ten seconds but Joshua repeated the trick moments later, and this time Martin failed to beat the count and after 92 seconds of the second round, Joshua was crowned IBF World Heavyweight champion. I will regroup and come back stronger from this.

“We’ve got more to go”.

“I think that’s unrealistic”. If you just wait for him to land a shot, then he’s going to do it. “He has just won the heavyweight championship of the world and it looks like he has just won a four-rounder”. IBF shouldn’t have stripped him and that’s why the opportunity existed.

For all that he has always been groomed for this platform, however, it comes as some surprise that his first world-title challenge has arrived so soon. “Ideally we both win our fights and square off for probably the biggest ever British heavyweight clash”.

“I get a lot of pressure in the gym to get better so some nights I haven’t been sleeping”.
