South Africa’s Archbishop Desmond Tutu has returned to hospital just a week after being discharged.

As indicated by an official statement from the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, “Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has been readmitted to a hospital in Cape Town …”

“[Tutu’s] daughter, the Rev Mpho Tutu, said the hospitalisation was unrelated to his cancer treatment”. The anti-apartheid activist survived polio as a baby and tuberculosis as a teen, and has lived with prostate cancer for the last 15 years, reported by the Guardian. “His oncologist confirms that his PSA (prostrate-specific antigen) level is pleasingly low”, it said.

The 83-year-old Nobel Peace Prize laureate was hospitalised to receive treatment for a “persistent infection”. “He will stay in hospital until the weekend, at least”, his daughter Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu said. While retired, he remains an outspoken champion on issues ranging from human rights to justice and equality.
