Guardiola appointment derailed Manchester City’s Premier League chances: Pellegrini

Sergio Aguero netted five against Newcastle in October and registered a hat-trick at Chelsea last weekend: back the Argentine to score two or more on Tuesday at 3/1; Moussa Sissoko scored last weekend and is a good value 13/2 anytime shot for the hosts.

The triumph capped a memorable week in which City also reached the Champions League semi-finals, and manager Manuel Pellegrini said: “I am sure Sergio is the best striker in the league”.

“I am satisfied with the team, they played well in attacking and defending”, Pellegrini is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

Aguero was aided repeatedly by the excellent Kevin De Bruyne, with the former Chelsea midfielder impressive on his first Premier League return to Stamford Bridge. We won the Capital One Cup, unfortunately we lost here 5-1 and wanted revenge for the FA Cup with our young team.

“It’s encouraging for them and for us it is another reason why we expect very strong opposition.”

Manuel Pellegrini’s side have a Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid to look forward to in the Chilean’s last few weeks in charge at the Etihad Stadium.

Interim Chelsea boss Hiddink admitted his side deserved to be beaten as they missed out on a chance to leapfrog Stoke into ninth place. It is not for nothing that they are in the last four in Europe.

“We had those defeats at home”.

De Bruyne’s pace again took him clear of the Blues’ defence and, this time going down the right, he squared for Aguero. That means we were in control but we didn’t have the ultimate bite to kill it off. Fernandinho broke into the Chelsea area and was upended by Courtois, leaving referee Mike Dean no choice but to issue the red card and award a penalty.

“The team are just focused on what we need to do”.

Pellegrini confirmed that full-backs Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna had also been ruled out and he called on his team to maintain the level they showed against Chelsea when they take on second-from-bottom Newcastle. City, in fourth, have not yet seen off the challenge of Manchester United and West Ham to secure Champions League football for next season, while third-placed Arsenal are still in range.
