Doom: id Software on taking the shooter back to its roots
The frame-rate in particular is part of the game’s fluidity. “I think it’s a great title for it, and who knows down the road”. Thus far Doom seems to be finding inspiration in it’s roots, as well. When the game is fast and fluid, “it’s exactly what we wanted it to be, so there’s no better feeling than that“. “Not having regnerative health isn’t a random choice, it stems from movement”, executive producer Marty Stratton said.

“Doom.” Bethesda wants that to be the answer to the question “What is your favourite FPS”. “Movement is king and you don’t want players stopping to regenerate health, you want them moving forward to see the resources of the game”.
But while id’s retreated to its own style of shooter design with Doom, Bethesda’s boss Pete Hines has admitted that he hopes the sequel will be able to compete with the franchises that have long since overtaken it. For fans of old-school shooters, this focus on speed and mayhem will be a defining aspect of the return of Doom. It was effectively the first major game debut of the show, and some reacted to its hyper-crazy ultra-violence with disdain, asking if we were “still all about this kind of thing” in gaming as the lead character dismembered demons with chainsaws and shotguns. So id has to deal with the challenge because we can’t walk in and say, ‘Hey, we’re making a Doom game, ‘ and everyone’s instantly on board.
ID Software, the developer behind upcoming first person shooter DOOM, has explained in detail why 1080p/60FPS is the most necessary graphical goal of the development and how it will benefit the overall gameplay experience for player.

While it’s clear that Doom is going to reach 1080p and 60fps on PS4 and Xbox One, it’s unclear just how id Software will augment the PC version to reach even higher resolutions and framerates, depending on the configuration.
