The next big Batman movie will be all about Ben Affleck

During the Warner Bros. panel at CinemaCon last evening, CEO Kevin Tsujihara took to the stage to finally confirm that Ben Affleck‘s long-rumored Batman solo movie was in the works. He also mentioned the US$166.1 million opening weekend achievement of the ” Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” movie, where Affleck wore the Batsuit for the first time.

At the San Diego Comic-Con past year, The Hollywood Reporter indicated that the award-winning actor-director was developing a spinoff Batman project alongside DC Entertainment CCO Geoff Johns. However, in late March, reports claimed that the actor had penned a solo Batman script, following which the actor/director’s agent from WME-IMG Patrick Whitesell said that it was “a really cool [Batman] idea”. Amber Heard is set to play Queen Mera in the film as well before moving to the solo Aquaman movie in 2018, with J.K. Simmons set to appear as Commissioner Gordon.

Ben Affleck isn’t done playing the Caped Crusader in Warner Bros’ DC Comics saga. He’s already signed on for two Justice League movies and will make a bat-cameo in the upcoming Suicide Squad. So far the Batman V Superman movie has gotten mixed reviews.

As of this moment, there is no release information for Affleck’s new Batman. Now fans can wait for that film to start production and get excited about a new cast of baddies for Batman to pummel. What’s more, rumor has it the new movie will be directed by Affleck as well. Warner Bros. have earmarked October 5, 2018 and November 1, 2019 as possible future release dates, so there’s a good chance that’s when we’ll be seeing this one.

Affleck is also set to star in the Justice League franchise, as well as the much anticipated Suicide Squad which opens later this year.
