Colin Kaepernick’s trade talk ‘dormant’ not dead with Broncos
With the top two quarterbacks in the National Football League draft likely to come off the board in the first two selections, it’s unlikely a ready-made pro would fall to the Broncos at No. 30. On Thursday, former Houston Texans quarterback Brian Hoyer is scheduled to visit John Elway and the Broncos.

That leaves Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian as the two quarterbacks on the team’s roster – the status quo since Denver traded for Sanchez last month following the retirement of Peyton Manning and departure of Brock Osweiler.
“We feel good with Mark”, said Elway.
“When those runs start, you never know where they’re going to be”. To really have to rush into a decision, we didn’t want to have to do that.
As the Broncos continue their search for a third quarterback, Broncos general manager John Elway made it clear the team hasn’t changed its view of Trevor Siemian, their seventh-round pick in 2015. After mentioning that Hoyer is a possibility, he added that there was “nothing to report there”.
“It’s dormant”, Elway said, in comments distributed by the team.
While players, such as receivers Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas, have sung the praises of Sanchez so far, it seems that Elway is not as sold on him as the answer, though he has allowed him to be patient in the quarterback-searching process.
In that sense, the pair of blockbuster trades by the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles to move into the first and second draft slots have little bearing on the Broncos, who own the final pick in the first round.
“It’s a long way to move”, Elway said. “He’s very talented. He’s got great arm talent and he’s a young guy. That’s why we stayed patient, again what’s helped is having Mark”.
Healthy competition. With the disparity in contracts the Broncos handed out to their running backs this offseason, C.J. Anderson (four-year, $18 million) and Ronnie Hillman (one-year, $2 million), it’s easy to forget that the load was a fairly even split last year. “There are going to be a lot of different options there, so we’ll see how it all takes shape”.
The quarterback topic that Elway was not afraid to speak openly about was trade discussions with Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers.

“This situation has gotten so ugly that you can anticipate Miller to consider whether he has to hold out until November to avoid playing under the one-year franchise tag”, Cole said. “As we got deeper into conversations we realized it was a significant difference between our thoughts and theirs. We’re excited about having him”. “I’ve bumped into a couple of them in the dining hall at lunch and said ‘hello.’ Other than that, that’s about it”.
