The Royals are utterly confusing reporters with ‘Trap Queen’ references

Baseball’s regular season is quite long.

The team is having so much fun, in fact, that some players have picked up a new favorite pastime to keep themselves entertained: trolling beat writers by using references to the rapper Fetty Wap.

Specifically, the numbers 17 and 38. In the song, Fetty repeats the digits 1738, referencing his Remy Boyz 1738 squad.

The numbers popped up in several quotes on Tuesday, according to The Kansas City Star’s Andy McCullough.

“Trap Queen” is the walk-up music for Royals center fielder Lorenzo Cain. “I’ll take 38;” and third baseman Mike Moustakas said of a play by Hosmer, “Hoz picks that thing 17 out of 38 times”.

Cain on Trevor Bauer of the Indians: “He was like a 17-38 to the plate”.

Kansas City players have created a system that results in fines if a player does not find a way to mention “1738” during postgame interviews. Can you imagine how hard it would be to work a Carly Rae Jepsen reference into interviews?
