Tesla Model X recalled over third-row seat hinges

Tesla has issued a voluntary recall for 2,700 Model X crossovers in the United States, over concerns that the third-row seats could fold forward in the event of a crash.

In the midst of mashing the dash on preorder reservations for its brand new Model 3 and recalling the Model X SUV for a backseat issue, Tesla has found the time to lace its flagship vehicle with some updates.

According to Electrek, the electric vehicle (EV) maker will likely officially release the new designs and specifications of the world’s most successful electric sedan, the Model S. In fact, it has a picture of the refreshed Model S design.

“It’s actually with the leverage of weight in the seat pulling it forward”, said Jon McNeill, president of sales and service at Tesla.

Shares of Tesla were down slightly about an hour after the company announced the recall.

Recently, two complaints regarding the Model X have been filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

This is the first recall for the Model X, which has been the subject of design and production delays since shortly after Tesla unveiled the electric vehicle a couple of years ago. In the meantime, the firm is urging owners not to use the third row.
