Willett vows to take Masters title in his stride
Danny Willett was due to return home to the United Kingdom today after his memorable Masters triumph – and has Rory McIlroy’s majors tally in his sights.

His victory rounded off a memorable couple of weeks for the 28-year-old Willett after his wife Nicole gave birth to the couple’s first child, Zachariah, just 12 days before the Masters started.
” I’m a long way behind points wise but it’s always been a goal of mine to be number one in the world”, Willett told Press Association Sport. “To get to the level Danny is at now you have to have that instinct to go out there and work, to pay the price to achieve and be successful”.
“Green makes you look fat, refuse the jacket”, quipped Peter on Twitter, with another tweet reading: “Speechless”.
“The more you say it, you start to realise just what we did last week and everything that going to go with it”, Willett added.
He could have been sailing along on the second act to one of the greatest years in golf history.
“I would not be surprised if he knows exactly how many Majors Rory has won and he will want to get up there and past Rory’s tally”.
“There’s no targets been set in terms of that (number of majors)”.
Thomas got bounced in the match-play portion of the event while Spieth made it all the way to the quarterfinals, where he faced British golfer Jack Senor. It was evidence that golf is in a really good place right now. “If I had been 5-over par, then it wouldn’t have mattered what Jordan had done. Just compounded mistakes. Just lack of discipline”. It’s what Faldo did in ’96 with (Greg) Norman, it’s what happened many a time in golf tournaments around the world.
“I can’t put it into words”.
“What happened to Jordan, it was so sudden, just bam”, said Faldo. He might not have hit the best golf shot in the world but the punishment around there is massive. “I went five, five, seven”. Westwood, trying to win his first major title at age 42, shot 69 while Spieth, who defends his US Open title in June at Oakmont, fired a 73. Not great, but certainly not a disaster.
All players within the top 15 of the Olympic rankings on July 11 will be eligible, although no more than four players can come from any one country. “It’s going to be awesome to be in and to be around the best athletes in the world at their allotted sports; to speak to them and see how they go about their daily routines”.
“Then Spieth did what he did on the 12th and it just went insane”.
The other three members of the 12-man European team will be selected as wildcards by captain Darren Clarke. It’s a dream come true.

The golfer’s parents, the Reverend Stephen and Elisabet Willett, said they had watched their son’s “meteoric” rise in recent years open-mouthed.
