Ben Affleck is to direct and star in a new stand-alone Batman movie, Warner Bros has revealed. The Batman movie will be Affleck’s fifth outing as a director. Ben Affleck’s talent agency claimed he had a completed Batman script and it was awesome, but there was no confirmation of this. According to ComicBook, Ben Affleck, and Geoff Johns the CCO of DC Entertainment are both going to work on the direction of the film.

The standalone Batman film was all but confirmed when William Morris Endeavor’s co-CEO Patrick Whitesell (who boasts Affleck as a client) told The Hollywood Reporter in a cover story that a script for the standalone film existed.

Affleck will be returning to the role of Gotham’s billionaire vigilante soon: he’ll co-star in Snyder’s follow-up, Justice League Part One.

Ben Affleck poses for a photograph after arriving to attend the European Premiere of the film “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”, in central London on March 22, 2016. He won a best picture award for Argo and directed a gangster film called Live by Night which will be released later this year.

The “Batman” movie is expected to be released by 2018 or 2019. “We’re working with Ben Affleck” could simply mean they’re in discussions, which is something we already knew.

Though DC’s initial foray into movies has been fraught with disappointment, many fans have applauded Affleck for his portrayal of a seasoned, grisly Batman. While he shared very little about the upcoming movie, he did confirm that it is one of the 10 DC Comics movie adaptations that are planned to be released in the next five years. If one goes to the Batman movie, the other is speculated to go to a Suicide Squad 2. Among the ten DC films due before 2020 are Suicide Squad, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam!, Cyborg, and Green Lantern Corps as well as two Justice League titles.
