Investigators are searching in three states for more than 500 pounds of explosives stolen from a Detroit-bound train.

Federal authorities are investigating the theft of a large shipment of commercial-grade fireworks from a CSX train that was traveling between Chicago and Detroit.
Detroit police said what was stolen were fireworks which fall under explosives.
The cases include 2.5-inch and 5-inch aerial commercial grade fireworks, which is the kind used in public fireworks displays, officials said.
The theft was discovered when the train arrived in Detroit, CSX spokesman Rob Doolittle said.
The ATF has not issued an advisory, however, according to Pegues they are considering do so as well as offering an award soon. Donald Dawkins, a special agent with the ATF, told WWJ Newsradio that the explosives taken were commercial-grade fireworks. The combination of quality and the quantity stolen cause concern for the danger involved when this type of explosives are not handled correctly.
“Safety is CSX’s highest priority, and CSX is committed to continuing to work with ATF in its investigation of this incident”, he said.

“This is very serious for us because you have 32 cases and they’re somewhere, and they’re missing”, Dawkins said.
