Reds’ bullpen roughed up again in 8-1 loss to Cubs

On Thursday night, Chicago Cubs’ pitcher, Jake Arrieta, threw a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds. He spent three seasons (2006-2008) with Cincinnati, the team that had the longest active regular-season streak without being no-hit snapped – a span of 7,109 games – with Arrieta’s gem on Thursday. The 30-year-old righty is on the list with Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Tim Lincecum and Homer Bailey.
197: Pitches thrown by the Reds’ four pitchers. “And that’s really special for him and the organization to have another no-hitter being thrown”. Finally, the two touch on Manfred’s thoughts on Bryce Harper, and whether the reigning NL MVP has equaled Mike Trout in terms of production after a hot start to his season.
While the whole baseball world is focused on the likes of Jose Fernandez, Clayton Kershaw and Madison Bumgarner, Arrieta has proven himself to be the most-dominating pitcher in baseball over the past calendar year.
Jake Arrieta’s first no-hitter set him apart.
Texas’ Ian Desmond drove in three runs with his first homer of the season to lift the Rangers to a 7-4 win against state rival Houston. “He’s arguably the best pitcher in the game today”.
“What can I say – he was spectacular”, Cubs manager Joe Maddon said, via Carrie Muskat and Mark Sheldon of MLB.com.
Arrieta achieved the feat on 119 pitches that included 4 walks and 6 strikeouts.
The Bro, who looks like every other dude who lives between Diversey and Addison, was able to tap Arrieta on the cap before being pulled away by police. “You got to make sure you watch what the infielders are doing and at the same time try to pick up the ball to figure out what side of the field you need to bunt it to”.
Finnegan started at Wrigley Field on April 11 and didn’t allow a hit until Ross singled with two outs in the seventh. Ben Zobrist and Ross added solo shots, and Anthony Rizzo had a three-run home run.
Rays 12, Red Sox 8: David Price gave up eight runs over 3 2/3 innings and managed to get the no-decision as the Red Sox battled back.
Lester will face a slumping Joey Votto, 0 for 17 over his last five games, and won’t have to deal with Billy Hamilton with the speedy outfielder sidelined by a bruised left thumb.

He extended his club-record of 24 consecutive quality regular-season starts since June 21, going 20-1 with a 0.86 ERA.
