Amazon Nudges Netflix With Stand-Alone Prime Video Option

“Amazon can even keep the $99 per year offer for Prime, and sell the service for $8.99, or even $9.99 per month for potential members, and people would still pay for Prime on a monthly basis, despite the $99 being the better offer”.

Now for $8.99 each month, subscribers will be able to watch Amazon originals like Transparent, Man in the High Castle, Catastrophe, Bosch, and Mozart in the Jungle, and cancel whenever they’re done binging those shows.

Amazon has introduced new monthly subscription services in the USA as it steps up plans to take on video-streaming services Netflix and Hulu.

Experts said the move was war. Once a user pays $99 for a year, he can avail of all these services.

Amazon is going toe-to-toe with video-streaming service Netflix.

Finally, in Apple news, the company has ended its iTunes Allowances program and its App Store reviewers have been feuding with developers of Reddit clients. Original series include “House of Cards”, “Orange Is the New Black” and “Jessica Jones”. Hulu also offers “The Mindy Project” as part of its original programming.

After dropping more than 25% in the first five weeks of 2016, Netflix shares have popped back to a decline of just 2.5% as of Friday’s close. Amazon didn’t immediately return a request for comment. (However, it’s important to note that soon everyone will be paying a minimum of $9.99, thanks to an unfortunate price increase). This is a variation of paying the typical $99 upfront for an annual Prime membership, which is still available. A second service that will cost $10.99 a month, will also add music streaming, and included free, two-day shipping on orders through Amazon, according to The New York Times.

Offerings: Current TV episodes, such as “Empire” and “Modern Family, ‘ a day after they air on network TV”.

In addition to its stand-alone video service, Amazon also is offering a new pay-as-you-go option for its full Prime membership that costs $10.99 a month and comes with free-two day shipping, streaming and other perks.

Netflix has always been available on a monthly basis, without an annual commitment, offering several plans ranging from US$7.99 to US$11.99 a month, depending on video quality and the number of screens to which customers can stream video at the same time.
