Earlier this week the Carolina Panthers rescinded their franchise tag on their star cornerback Josh Norman.

Norman, 28, tweeted a series of emoji in the wake of the news, and the Redskins posted several photos, including two of Norman signing his deal. There is still room for improvement here and with the Redskins signing Norman, they will not be able to address the other needs. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Norman will visit the team on Friday.

Gettleman revealed that the team and Norman’s agent did not reach an agreement. It was a deal that the Panthers, who know Norman best, wanted no part of, for reasons that were both philosophical and financial. By signing Norman, the Redskins now have the flexibility to trade down and acquire more pick, focus on bolstering the defensive line or select the best player available. If not, the Redskins will likely lose all three of their top pass-catchers to free agency due to their now very limited options with their salary cap. Norman’s agent says the cornerback has agreed to terms on a contract with the Washington Redskins.

Norman finished last season with 48 tackles and four interceptions before earning All-Pro honors for the first time in his career. But Carolina general manager Dave Gettleman said Thursday that he eventually became uncomfortable with one player eating up that much salary cap space.

“We still want to carry over some for next year”, he said.

The move comes just two days after Norman was surprisingly let go by the Carolina Panthers.
