Striker waits for Villa switch

Adebayor was said to be at Villa’s Bodymoor Heath training ground on Tuesday and Goal understands he is ready to secure a loan deal, with the Midlands club paying his wages in full.

ITV Sport claims that the signing of 31-year-old Adebayor could be completed within the next 24 hours, while Veretout could become the fourth player to join Villa from Ligue 1 this summer by the end of the week. Blackburn Rovers centre-forward Rudy Gestede remains an option as Sherwood looks to boost his side’s goal threat.

Bizarrely we are now being linked with former Spurs and Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov.

At 34, Berbatov is now in the twilight of his career but the striker’s game has never been about speed and he could still be capable of doing a job for Villa whenever called upon.

“Stiliyan knows him very well”. I can only talk for myself, but I am hoping there is because when Adebayor wants to play he is extremely effective. “He knows that Berbatov is still a top-class striker and he believes he can be the right man for Villa”.

Should the two be able to recreate the working relationship they had at White Hart Lane, Villa fans may not miss Christian Benteke quite as much as first feared.

“You don’t have many strikers with experience in the Premier League available at the moment”. They have until this evening to take a decision.

“But would I trust Emmanuel Adebayor?”

“The medical hasn’t been done up to now but we are just waiting upon that”.
