A statement released by UEFA read: “Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Champions League second-leg quarter final between Manchester City FC and Paris Saint-Germain (1-0) played on 13 April in England”.

Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc said earlier this month that the Ligue 1 champions were patiently awaiting a decision from Ibrahimovic himself concerning his future.

“In order to win the Champions League you have to play against the best teams and today we played against one of them”.

“It is not easy because you have very strong teams in Europe but I am sure that the target of this club is to win the Champions League”.

“It’s an fantastic night for us”, said goalkeeper Joe Hart, the only player on Tuesday’s squad who joined City before the 2008 takeover by Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Mansour. “Now we must test him with more intensity and its very hard to tell now”.It was the Belgium international’s second goal of the tie after he netted City’s opener in the 2-2 first leg draw in Paris last week.

The 24-year-old, who started just two Premier League matches in his two years as a Chelsea player before reviving hs career in Germany with Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg, said: “We were excellent against PSG”. We lost a couple of players to suspension as well.

“I think we are a better team, but we lost tonight and we drew 2-2 at home, so all the best to Manchester City”.

De Bruyne didn’t waste his opportunity in the 76th minute. I think this year will perhaps be the same again.

De Bruyne is not interested in the past though, preferring to focus on the future with City for whom he has now scored 15 goals to go with his 12 assists in all competitions to more than justify his £54.5m transfer fee.

But their latest Champions League failure has seen them labelled “impotent” by French media, as the latest inquest into their inability to conquer Europe’s elite begins. “I put the team together, I selected the team and I selected the strategy that was on the pitch”, the former France captain added. Now, if I try and explain what happened, it doesn’t mean anything.

“We found it tough to pose problems for their defence”, Blanc said.

“It would be the best (to win it for the manager) but we still have a lot of work to do to achieve that…”

And without those men operating in the base of Midfield as well as attacking, Guardiola has failed to reach any final since he left Camp Nou to Allianz Arena.

“I think over the two games, especially this one, we tried to do what we wanted to do but maybe we just didn’t have what was required”.

“We’re in the semi-finals now and we deserve to be there”.
