George Pataki Says Trump Nomination Would Drive GOP ‘Off a Cliff’
The three Republican presidential hopefuls – Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and John Kasich – headed to midtown Manhattan’s Grand Hyatt hotel Thursday night for the New York State Republican Gala, ahead of the state’s April 19 primary.

“There was not a single paid staffer from the Cruz campaign”, said Kendal Unruh, a high school government teacher and veteran of Colorado’s nominating process who successfully ran on the Cruz slate.
Appearing later for one of Fallon’s signature softball interviews, the “Tonight” host slipped in one tough question about the upcoming New York primary: “So New York’s not gonna happen?”
A similar situation is expected to follow in Wyoming, where 14 delegates are chosen at the state primary’s convention, the majority of which are reportedly anti-Trump.
Marco Rubio won those 17 delegates in the March 1 presidential poll, while Cruz won 13 and Trump won eight.
The chairman of the Republican National Committee chairman says the rules are the rules and have been the rules since the beginning of the race. “That’s like arguing that I got an 83 on my math test and everyone else did worse, so I should get an A even though an A is 90”.
In order to maximize the number of delegates he receives, Trump has to get at least 50 percent of the vote at the statewide level and in individual congressional districts.
“If you’re a Hillary supporter, you’re rooting for Donald”, he said. “That’s nuts”, said Kasich.
Kasich, who is trailing Trump among likely New York Republican voters according to the polls, is hoping to emerge as the Republican nominee at a brokered convention. Should he not secure the nomination, many delegates will be freed up from their pledged support on the second and subsequent votes in the convention and could vote with their conscience as opposed to for the candidate their state’s voters preferred. “We’re going to have the 1,237 delegates and if they cheat us, be prepared for war”, he promised.
Spindell: You’re no longer going to be a delegate. Really disgust [s] me.
“I believed myself to be a Republican until last Saturday”, Jim Sutter said.
“We shouldn’t be intimidating delegates”, Cruz said.
