“We are aware of the situation regarding Mark Walton and we have taken immediate action by suspending him from the team”, University of Miami athletic director Blake James said.

Walton, a sophomore-to-be, was the first-string running back this spring for the Hurricanes, who completed spring practices with last Saturday’s spring game.

Walton’s blood alcohol concentration was between 0.059 percent and 0.060 percent, police said.

Walton was arrested for driving under the influence after he was stopped by Miami Police in Coral Gables near S.W. 27th Terrace and S.W. 30th Court. In the document, police said Walton almost fell when asked to walk to the back of the vehicle. “We have no further comment at the time”. Only minutes after that game ended, Hurricanes coach Mark Richt urged his players to help each other stay out of trouble and avoid negative headlines over the coming weeks and months between the spring season and training camp. Kicker Jon Semerene was charged with DUI and dismissed from the team. He led the team with 10 total touchdowns (nine rushing, one receiving), was second with 450 rushing yards and fifth with 293 receiving yards.

Walton was penciled in to share the backfield workload with junior Joseph Yearby, who rushed for 1,002 yards last season, but his status is now up in the air.
