Shakeups Continue in Donald Trump Campaign with Field Director Departure

His team has been drastically reduced, and field director Stuart Jolly, who had previously reported to Lewandowski, tendered his resignation. It was just last week the campaign announced the hiring of veteran operative Paul Manafort to serve as convention manager, charged with securing the delegates needed for Trump ahead of the Republican party convention this July in Cleveland, Ohio.

That means Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s campaign manager and serial a-hole, is for all intents and purposes out as the Republican frontrunner’s number two.

In tweets to his more than 6 million followers, Trump said, [email protected] begged us for a job.

According to CBS News, Lewandowski’s role within the campaign has been relegated to that of a “body man” and scheduler.

“I say we should outlaw teleprompters for anybody running for president”, he told Iowa voters a year ago.

The cash infusion – which the sources said is meant to fund an aggressive advertising push, as well as more staff at Trump’s NY headquarters and in upcoming states – is part of an effort by the billionaire to expand and professionalize a shoestring operation that had mostly gotten by on the strength of free media exposure and a small core team. “But you have to show that you know what you are doing”.

On Saturday, Trump directed Manafort and Rick Wiley, who Manafort hired last week as a political director, to take over strategy in the remaining states with Republican primaries, Politico reported Monday. Perhaps most significantly, Trump’s hire of McGinley shows that he’s now serious about fighting for every delegate and winning the battles on the convention floor that could lead to victory on the first ballot.

At a Wisconsin campaign rally hours after Lewandowski was charged, Trump read Fields’ account aloud: “Maybe he touched (her) a little bit, but I didn’t see”, Trump told the crowd. “Nobody called me from Politico”, Trump said.

According to the lawsuit, Lewandowski affirmed that Trump had a dinner with Ailes recently, and he knew for sure that Fox supported his campaign completely. “We’ve divided the roles, we’re working together, Donald Trump is our boss and we’re very happy”, he said.

Trump’s campaign has come under fire for questions whether it has behaved appropriately toward the Super PAC, the suit says. “Things were changing so I’m going to give them an opportunity”, Jolly said.

“Corey goes on national TV to talk about how he didn’t really commit battery on a woman – a awful topic for the campaign to have out there – and then he makes it even worse by getting his facts wrong and pissing off the chairman in Florida when he didn’t need to”, a campaign insider told POLITICO.

Trump attributed Lewandowski’s actions to security concerns.
