Prince death: What we know

Prince was last seen by an acquaintance who dropped him off at the Paisley Park on Wednesday night after visiting a local Walgreens and waiting on a prescription.

Fans who gathered outside the property’s fence were given purple gifts boxes containing books, shirts or CDs by family members and friends – including musicians Sheila E. and Larry Graham. “Gathering the results will take several days and the results of a full toxicology scan could likely take weeks”, the medical examiner’s office said.

Prince’s fame made Minnesota feel good about itself.

“When you think of Minneapolis, you automatically think of Prince”, said Jen Boyles, 37, a longtime Twin Cities music journalist.

A cause of death for the “Purple Rain star” has not been released.

But after his death at age 57 – following a series of canceled shows and a reported emergency plane landing for medical treatment – questions swirled over whether the music superstar had been hiding serious health problems from his fans.

“This is a tragedy for all of us”.

Prince, born Prince Rogers Nelson in Minneapolis on June 7, 1958, had spoken openly about having epilepsy as a child.

But Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson said Prince’s body had no signs of violence when he was found unresponsive Thursday morning in an elevator at Paisley Park, his estate in suburban Minneapolis.

Minnesota is a rich musical state that has produced Bob Dylan, Judy Garland, Eddie Cochran and the Andrews Sisters. Prince’s decision to stay home, Fuchs said, made him special.

He said at this point, it is unclear how long Prince was in the elevator before he was found.

His publicist said a small group of family, friends and musicians celebrated Prince’s life in a private ceremony.

“He had the freedom to do stuff here and not worry about paparazzi bothering him”.

The sheriff said they hadn’t received previous calls for Prince at Paisley Park before Thursday – there had been previous calls made over the past year but never about Prince. You know we’re like athletes, we train, and we get hurt all the time.

“Hopefully, Prince executed a trust, and indicated his intentions both with respect to who his trustee would be and how he would want the estate to be disposed of”, said celebrity probate attorney Dan Streisand, who has represented the estates of Marlon Brando, Barry White and Rodney Dangerfield.

The singer’s death came two weeks after he canceled concerts in Atlanta, saying he wasn’t feeling well.

Olson, the sheriff, said no medical calls came from Paisley Park regarding Prince within the past year.

“Maybe to a certain extent he considered this a little bit of peaceful repose”, Laufenburger said. Prince opened the $10 million compound in 1987, recording, performing and living there.
