Tiger attack kills veteran keeper at Palm Beach Zoo
Such awful news. Stacey Konwiser, 38, the lead tiger keeper at the Palm Beach Zoo, had one of her beloved cats turn on her April. 15, when a male Malayan tiger bit her and the wound was so severed it ended up killing her!

Although the tiger was tranquilized immediately, officers from the West Palm Beach Police Department said that they were forced to wait for the tranquilizer to take effect before they could safely tend to Konwiser.
The tiger was quickly subdued and officials treated the injured woman who was then rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center, the newspaper reported. However, when she returned to the exhibit just before 2 pm, she saw a trainer run by and say, “we need to evacuate”. By keeping the animals, zoos can learn about animal behavior, habits and more, and can use that information around the world to help future generations in the wild. She met her husband while they worked at The Living Desert, according to a 2014 post on the Palm Beach Zoo’s Facebook page, and both spouses worked at the Palm Beach Zoo.Attacks by zoo animals are relatively rare in the US. The tiger is now “doing fine”, as she continues to recover following her run in with tranquilizers in the aftermath of the incident, Carter indicated.
The Palm Beach Zoo remains closed throughout the weekend.
Investigators have already talked to people who were in or near the facility at the time of the incident, said Naki Carter, zoo spokeswoman. The zoo said that there was enough staff on hand to handle the situation, and keep the tiger from posing any further threat.

Konwiser was in a night house, which is not visible to the public, preparing for a “tiger talk”, which sees keepers speak about the critically endangered animals. “These keepers don’t get into this business without the love for these animals and understanding the danger that’s involved”, she said. Lead keeper Stacey Konwiser, known as the “tiger whisperer”, suffered a “severe bite” inside the Malayan tigers’ habitat. “These attacks, and scenarios where an animal escapes, have also resulted in the deaths of over 128 big cats, many of whom were endangered species”. Visitors were all moved to a safe place and all the 250 animals in the Zoo were accounted for.
