For Prince, 1999 was a big year of interviews and time where he shared some of his greatest wisdom.

But Prince fans mourning his death yesterday still have a few options when it comes to finding his music online. They all confirmed the existence of the fabled vault.

In 1987, Prince de-banded from his band “The Revolution” and went on to release his first solo album, titled “Sign O The Times”.

From music to film, fashion and beyond, the influential artist leaves behind a career marked by creativity, bold style and reinvention.

His elaborate fashion, Chapman says, wasn’t the only thing many admired about Prince.

“One of the ways in which I did that was to do change my name and so to divorce me from the past and all the hang ups that go with it”.

And Ellie Goulding posted that she was “speechless” when he presented her with British female solo artist in 2014. Everything he recorded, whether it was on an album or not, was stored in the vault. “Purple Rain” also served as the soundtrack to his movie, which was titled the same as the song.

And referencing one his most famous songs, Oprah Winfrey tweeted: “Prince the doves really are crying now”.

Old school, yes, but the man who cited Miles Davis, James Brown, Stevie Wonder & Sly and the Family Stone as influences would surely approve. Prince tributes have already begun taking over radio stations and social media – and they’re easily accessible by turning on Spotify, scrolling through Twitter, and searching YouTube.

“Maybe he’s just waiting for the right time”, speculated Sonny Thompson, bass guitarist.

Prince Rogers Nelson, the innovative and unique musician who became one of the most iconic artists of his generation, has died.

“…I think if you could (get access to the vault) you would probably be sitting there for 10 years”, laughed Thompson.

Like iTunes, Amazon and Google both sell music downloads, and Prince’s catalog is available for purchase on their websites. “That’s a matrix. I had to get out of the industry to realize what it’s like to record from a free place”.

That remains a mystery, though we can only hope that someone as calculated as Prince had a plan in mind for the world after his death.
