Four dead in Thane building collapse
Thane: At least three persons were killed when a four-storey building at Thakurli in Thane district collapsed late on Wednesday night.

“The building crashed at about 10.40 p.m following heavy downpour”.
Other than the deceased, at least 10 people are severely injured, whereas, apparently 20 resident families are stuck in the debris. Kalyan Dombivali Chief Fire Brigade officer Dilip Gund informed that nine people were successfully rescued from the debris while another five who jumped off the building while it was collapsing are reported to be safe.
An official said that the building caved in as digging was going on at an adjacent plot for construction of a new structure.
Santosh Kadam of Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) said that some more occupants could be still trapped beneath the debris.
A number of people die in building collapses every year in this country.
A 50-member team from the National Disaster Response Force are engaged in rescue and relief operations which have been hampered dur to heavy rain since last night.
The injured have been admitted to a local hospital in Dombivili, Visave added.

Thane collector Dr Ashwini Joshi also reached the spot to supervise the relief and rescue operations.
