With the hurt of Prince’s unexpected death at the age of 57 still fresh for both Coachella artists and attendees, numerous acts made Prince’s presence felt during their set.

Coachella Weekend 2 has unsurprisingly become a giant love-fest for departed musical legend Prince, and rightly so. “Yesterday, I lost a dear friend”, Staples said. “Talkin’ bout Prince, y’all, Prince!…He was the most handsome spirit that I have ever met”.

Staples, who was once signed to Prince’s Paisley Park Records, got emotional before delivering an a cappella take on “Purple Rain”.

Staples then told the crowd a amusing story of the first time she met Prince, when he attended a concert of her family’s group, the Staples Singers, at the historic Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Before LCD Soundsystem took to the stage, three screens on the main stage played Prince’s cover of Radiohead’s 1993 hit Creep, which he initially debuted during his headline performance at Coachella in 2008.

Ellie Goulding also wrapped her pipes around When Doves Cry during her set at the festival.

He came out onto the stage to Prince’s intro from “Let’s Go Crazy”.

LCD Soundsystem drove home their tribute with a performance of Prince’s hit dance-pop song “Controversy”. Jack U paid tribute with a montage at the end of their set.
