DETROIT – Jose Ramirez scored two runs and knocked in two more as Cleveland overcame the injury loss of starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco to complete a three-game sweep of Detroit.

The Mets got on the board early in the game, as Curtis Granderson and Asdrubal Cabrera opened up with back-to-back base hits. Since the Mets have scored in the first inning in six of their last eight games and are 9-3 when they score first this year.

Part of the change in the offense was because Terry Collins moved up Michael Conforto into the No. 3 spot.

DeGrom allowed one run on eight hits while striking out three in 5 2/3 innings. Lucas Duda drove in the insurance run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

This three homers in 18 games stretch is something else, though.

Collins said Cespedes may be held out more than one day.

Wade Miley (1-2) retired 16 of the final 19 batters he faced, including 11 successive between the third and seventh innings.

Conforto is batting. 296 with 10 RBIs. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Inciarte is hitting in extended spring training games but not running full speed.

Tomorrow, April 25, the series finale will have Jacob deGrom returning to the mound after the scary situation he went through with his newborn son. He worked around baserunners in all but the second inning. The first inning was a bit worrisome for deGrom, who gave up hits to Daniel Castro and Adonis Garcia, but ultimately got out of it. He was chased by Kelly Johnson’s two-out, dribbler of a single in the sixth and his pitch count. Matz threw 98 pitches, 74 for strikes, and won his second straight game. He said his son no longer has the problem.

It was a solid return for deGrom after a stressful month. DeGrom also dealt with muscle soreness while on the family emergency list, keeping him out since the team’s home opener.

“Everything feels physically fine”, deGrom said.

Each time the Braves tried to squawk Sunday, there was deGrom with a big pitch to escape trouble before getting the ball to what has become a proficient bullpen. “I think that helped me out, because it’s not fun being in the hospital for a week”. He had taken out of his first start of the season as a precaution because he felt “tightness”, in his right side and been scratched from his second start because it was still sore days later.

“I was a little nervous, but glad to be back out there”, said deGrom, who last pitched April 8.

In addition, deGrom had departed his previous appearance with soreness in his right lat that threatened to sideline him from his ensuing start if not for the baby’s arrival. The game lasted five hours, 56 minutes, making it the longest regular-season game in Nationals history, since 2005, in terms of time.

Jacob de Grom says his son Jaxon had a form of apnea that caused him to stop breathing after falling asleep
