Arsenal threw title away – Lehmann

Frustrations among Arsenal supporters have been bubbling under the surface as the club’s latest title challenge has fallen flat, with Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace putting their place among the top four in the Premier League under threat.

Arsenal wasted a glut of chances to extend their advantage before Palace snatched a point, Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck particularly at fault. “He really is in really good shape, mental-wise and physical-wise it’s really good, and for us so important, because, for example, Roberto Firmino now has an injury problem after he was in ideal shape”, Liverpool manager Klopp said.

“You can see when I was on the bench and warming up and they were booing me I was just laughing”.

In a post-match press conference, Wenger said: “I’m very disappointed”.

Wenger’s men next face West Brom on Thursday night and will be desperate to reignite their Premier League campaign with fifth-placed Manchester United breathing down their necks.

“We had chances to score the second goal but didn’t find the back of the net”.

“I felt we had 70 percent possession and we didn’t make enough of it. We lacked a bit of accuracy in our final ball and as well the change of pace”.

Speaking about the title race at the Laureus World Sports Awards, Lehmann was of the opinion that the Gunners did throw it away when they had it in their hands.

“You get the impression the players think there is nothing in the season anymore and they can’t wait for it to finish”.

“In the end we got caught with basically a unique shot on goal from Crystal Palace”. “At the moment, it’s more let’s stick together and do our best until the end of the season”.

“It’s much more about that and to look behind us because everybody is playing well and winning games”.

“We’ve been talking about the situation where if any of the teams ahead of us slip, we need to get three points but unfortunately we’ve not been able to do that”.

As long as you don’t win every game, you want to add what is needed. “Today we have made it more hard for ourselves”.
