Gangrene developed three months ago after he suffered an injury to his left foot while taking a morning walk near his upscale residence in Karachi. Doctors from Liaquat National Hospital and Combined Military Hospital in Karachi told News18 that his legs might need to be amputated.

Dawood is suffering from a combination of ailments compounded by gangrene in his legs for some time and is said to be crippled due to it.

Moreover, the cause of gangrene was attributed to the loss of blood supply due to high blood pressure and blood sugar.

Dawood is unlikely to be moved outside of Karachi, where he gets full support and the protection of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI, for treatment. As per the report, it was also decided in the same meeting that army doctors would lead treatment.

If Dawood’s condition worsens, and he dies in Pakistan, then it will be a big blow to India’s efforts to bring him to justice. The blasts were carried out with the help of his subordinates, Tiger Memon and Yakub Memon. Yakub Memon was hanged to death in July 2015 for this crime.
