Stop wondering whether Gmail for Android already supported Exchange, because it did. but only on Nexus devices.
Google has updated Gmail for Android with support for Microsoft Exchange.
Microsoft Exchange is used quite frequently by workplaces and universities. To add the Exchange account in Gmail, go to settings, then navigate to Add Account, and choose Exchange from the list of available options.
The update will allow users of Exchange – the standard for many work-related email accounts – to access their professional email, calendar and contacts from within the Gmail application, alongside personal Gmail accounts. If you run across any problems, it could be due to the fact that the admin in charge of the mail server has not approved the Gmail app yet.

Exchange support is expected to roll out over the next three days. Now the question is whether or not your IT department will actually let you use Gmail instead of something else. Now a couple of years ago Google added support for Yahoo and Outlook, and the good news is that support for Exchange is now here.
