Are you celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday today?
Thursday marks Elizabeth’s 90th birthday, another milestone in her record-breaking reign.
The queen was born Princess Elizabeth on April 21, 1926 and became queen on the death of her father, King George VI, in 1952.
Brightling, Battle and Winchelsea’s beacons will also be lit tonight.
The tradition, which began in 1977 for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee and has been repeated for VE Day commemorations and the Queen’s Gold and Diamond Jubilees, saw beacons sited at prominent locations in Scotland, such as the Shetland island of Unst, where the community council laid on an event. “The Queen was killing herself laughing, she must have seen it on TV, she was really lovely”.
Britain celebrated the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday with tributes to a popular monarch who has steered it through the decline of empire and a wave of scandals to the Internet age.
He sent the Queen a birthday gift – a hand-painted silk scarf with a motif of Jerusalem on it.
He wished her “the most special and happiest of birthdays on this occasion”.

Her popular grandchildren have helped bolster the family fortunes.
Shortly before 2pm, the Queen then unveiled a plaque marking The Queen’s Walkway, a 6.3km trail that links 63 significant points across the town.
Church Road Primary School, Captain’s Clough Road, held an outdoor tea party where children dressed as either kings, queens or in red white and blue. Some have predicted the queen may resign in her lifetime, while others say the line of succession may skip Prince Charles in favor of expediting Prince William’s path to the throne.
The PM said: “Her Majesty’s carried herself with the most extraordinary grace and humility”.
Philip stopped to talk to the pair and Ms Martin said later: “He asked me what I do and where I live and I told him I’m Sandra, I live in Brixton and I appear on TV”.
Buckingham Palace issued three portraits by photographer Annie Leibovitz to mark the day.
The queen usually spends her birthday privately, with most of the pomp and ceremony reserved for an official birthday that’s marked in June.
“She has served our nation with such dignity, with such ability for so many years”.
On the Queen’s birthday, Lucki, who is the southwestern Ontario representative for the Monarchist League of Canada, said he wished her many years of good health and happiness.

“It is a wonderful gesture which I know has deeply touched Her Majesty”, he wrote. This will focus on the use of tartan in the Queen’s dress.
