Stephen Curry out at least two weeks with MCL sprain

The Warriors announced Monday that an MRI on Curry’s right knee determined he has a Grade 1 sprain of the MCL and will be re-evaluated in two weeks. He immediately grabbed his knee and jogged with a limp to the locker room.

Curry returned to the court after halftime and moved laterally to test the joint but shook his head toward the bench and returned to the locker room.

In 65 games, the 11-year pro averaged 14.1 points and 5.8 assists per game.

And if they advance, the Warriors will also play several games in the second round without Curry, against an opponent probably far more likely to take advantage of his absence. It is important for the other Warriors to compete and win at least 2 games so that they would be even with the Clippers and hope Curry could be back for a pivotal Game 5.

If Curry can’t go, the Warriors will look to Shaun Livingston to make a third start in his place as they try to wrap up the series on Wednesday in Oakland.

Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers told reporters Monday that the two-week timetable for Stephen Curry’s re-evaluation was an educated guess.

He warmed up before the start of the second half with the intention of playing, but the team’s medical staff and coach Steve Kerr prevented his return. I said this about Game 3, everyone thinks there’s going to be a major adjustment in a game.

Curry sustained the injury while guarding Houston Rocket’s Trevor Ariza on a wet zone of the court during the game 4 of the playoffs on Sunday.

The team said Curry, who missed games two and three with a right ankle injury, had suffered a suspected right knee strain. “Might be after two weeks, might be before”. “But I just feel bad for him”. According to NBA.com, the conference semifinals will begin on May 2 at the latest and could kick off on April 30 or May 1 depending on the first round unfolds.

“Steph’s our leader and MVP, but at the same time and without sounding insensitive to Steph, we have a game we are trying to win”, Bogut said after the game four win.

Curry will be sidelined as the Warriors try to finish off the Rockets in the first round of the 2016 NBA Playoffs, but avoided a more serious injury.
