Obama Is Expected To Send 250 Special Operations Troops To Syria
Obama often tours American businesses and factories – and often spends time with world leaders – but the marathon tour with Merkel was a sign of how much the leaders want to conclude talks on an EU-U.S. trade deal before Obama’s presidency ends on January 20. More than 5,200 exhibitors from over 70 countries and regions attended the fair.

US President Barack Obama has announced that he has approved the deployment of an additional 250 troops to Syria to support local forces in the fight against Islamic State.
“He (Mr Obama) intends to put in more. forces to the tune of 250 in Syria”, said one U.S. official, adding he was unable to break down how many of those would be special operations forces and how many might be medical or intelligence support personnel.
Last week, Defense Secretary Ash Carter said the USA will send 200 more troops and a number of Apache helicopters to Iraq to assist in the fight to retake Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city that is now under ISIS control.
The deployment of up to 250 Special Forces soldiers increases US forces in Syria roughly six-fold and is aimed at helping militia fighters who have clawed back territory from Islamic State militants in a string of victories.
Obama said that in a meeting later with the leaders of Great Britain, Germany, France and Italy, he would ask those nations to step up their contribution to the air campaign and to the training of local forces.
IS was a focus of his private talks with his counterparts in all three stops.
Obama’s announcement is intended serve as an example of how the U.S.is willing to commit its own resources to the worldwide goal of bringing the Syrian civil war to an end.
“In order for us to solve the long-term problems in Syria, military solution along – and certainly us deploying ground troops – is not going to bring that about”, he said.
“It helps underscore you can’t build walls around the U.S.”, Froman said in an interview.

He had earlier said that Europe would be safer with Britain voting to stay in the European Union in the June 23 referendum and be able to tackle terrorism more effectively from within.
On Monday, they are set to hold talks with British Prime Minister David Cameron, French President Francois Hollande and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi on some of the same issues.
The Syrian opposition delegation, known as the High Negotiations Committee (HNC), and rebel forces inside Syria have accused the government of repeatedly violating the terms of the truce brokered by the USA and Russian Federation.
“I spoke to President Vladimir Putin early last week to try to make sure that we could reinstate the cessation of hostilities”, Obama said. “So having people who develop relationships with local tribes, people who may be going in and out of places like Raqqa, us being able to distinguish between those who we can work with and those we can’t – all of that is really important”.
While Iraqi military forces, backed by US air power and other enhancements, retook the city of Ramadi early this year, plans to move toward Mosul, in northern Iraq, have dragged as the Baghdad government contends with economic and political difficulties, and the melding of Iraq’s Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish military forces into a unified offensive force has proved problematic.

The US president later arrived in Hannover, Germany, where he hopes to boost support for the controversial Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) deal. Eight Apache helicopters were also being sent to Iraq for the first time to help fight IS.
