On Wednesday, New Haven Police were given information that the victim may have spent time at the now vacant Salvation Army building, which is located at 301 George Street.
A pair of severed legs found on July 15 have been tied to Roberson through DNA tests, and police have learned that two arms found the same day “most likely” belong to him as well, Officer David B.
The office of the chief medical examiner and state forensic lab must complete their investigation to determine whether the torso is connected to the Roberson case. New Haven police did not immediately return phone and email messages seeking comment. The remains have not been identified. Though the building was abandoned, squatters had rigged electrical wiring to get power in the building.
Police have not yet identified the torso, but they say it is probably it is Roberson’s. One of those spots was 301 George St.
Commuters driving past the scene, which is located between Yale University and Yale-New Haven Hospital, told Eyewitness News that it was scary to see the area cordoned off by police tape and cruisers. The center shut down in June 2014 as the Salvation Army consolidated its Connecticut operations. Police brought cadaver dogs in late Wednesday which led them to the discovery shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday. It’s unclear if that person has been linked to the death.
Arms were also found near the station.
The arms were missing hands, so a fingerprint analysis was not possible.
The legs were matched by DNA testing to a 54-year-old homeless man, Ray Roberson, who had last been seen in May. Hartman said Monday.
Homeless people led police to the George Street and Crown Street scenes.
Since Roberson’s identification, detectives and investigators have been searching for clues in this “bizarre case”, Hartman said.
