Chipotle hit hard by Q1 losses
Net loss of $26.4 million, down from net income of $122.6 million. In a report released yesterday, Wells Fargo analyst Jeff Farmer reiterated a Buy rating on CMG, with a price target of $590, which represents a potential upside of 32.3% from where the stock is now trading. Since the beginning of the year, it has repurchased $645 million worth of common stock at an average price of $463 per share. William Blair reissued a “buy” rating on shares of Chipotle Mexican Grill in a research note on Saturday, March 5th. The company’s stock had a trading volume of 503,770 shares. That would be down from a gain of $3.88 per share in the same quarter a year ago.

Shares of Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE:CMG) traded down 5.40% during mid-day trading on Monday, reaching $421.84.
Shares sank 11.5% after hours.
The company’s Q1 results sequentially follow a Q4 pockmarked by a 43% year-over-year profit decline and a 7% sales tumble, breaking a years-long string of double-digit quarterly growth. Shares were Reiterated by RBC Capital Mkts on April 27, 2016 to “Outperform” and Lowered the Price Target to $ 485 from a previous price target of $500.Chipotle Mexican Grill was Upgraded by JP Morgan to ” Overweight” on April 14, 2016. But unless your strategy is to buy high and sell low, which admittedly is what most companies do when executing buyback programs, this is exactly when a company should be repurchasing stock. It has a target price of 478.67 (IPO Date).
At the moment 35 analysts are watching Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. The company has a market capitalization of $12.67 billion and a price-to-earnings ratio of 27.94. The stock’s 50-day moving average is $471.18 and its 200-day moving average is $525.92.
Revenue: Revenue of $867.8 million is expected, according to the FactSet consensus, down from revenue of $1.089 billion in the same period a year ago.
Chipotle Mexican Grill CMG just released its first quarter 2016 earnings results, posting earnings of $-0.88 per share and revenue of $834.5 million.
Total shares held by institutions as of the most recent company filings are 30,272,784 with a reported 2,688,489 bought and 3,999,772 sold. Revenue grew 15.4% to $508.3 million, well below forecasts of $530.3 million.
Panera Bread (PNRA) boosted its full-year profit guidance to $6.50-$6.70, up from $6.33-$6.52. Wells Fargo upgraded Chipotle Mexican Grill from a market perform rating to an outperform rating in a research report on Wednesday, February 3rd.

Barclays has an Equal Weight rating with a $430 price target. Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants serve a menu of burritos, tacos, burrito bowls (a burrito without the tortilla) and salads. The company also has restaurants in Canada, England, France and Germany.
