Donald Trump edging closer to Republican nomination

Days after Kasich and Cruz announced a joint effort to stop Trump from becoming president, James Brainard told MSNBC he’s not here to tell citizens who to vote for. Cruz accused Trump of standing with Clinton on a litany of policy and political fronts and said in jest that Clinton has tapped Trump as his running mate.

Cruz, who came to the cameras from IN before any of the polls closed, promised to fight on, and said the race would now move to territory more favorable to his campaign.

“Well, first of all, Donald and I do not agree on everything and that’s why they’ve brought me on”. “Absolutely.” I think he’s not quite there. Trump opponents from both the establishment and the “movement conservative” media continue to search for other options, including means to force the nomination process beyond a first ballot. He headed into Tuesday’s vote with 845 delegates, 392 short of the 1,237 needed to clinch.

A Cruz win in IN would be a bit of a “stick in the spokes” for Trump and give Cruz and the anti-Trump forces a boost into the next states, said Republican strategist David Johnson, a former Florida Republican Party executive director.

In the Republican delegate race for 1237, Mr Trump has 845 delegates, Mr Cruz 559 and Mr Kasich 148. We know Donald Trump has zero chance of being able to beat Hillary Clinton. If Trump can win the IN primary, he will stay the path to clinch the nomination by the end of the primaries on June 7.

About 3 in 10 voters were 45 to 64 years old, and more than three-fourths of them voted for Clinton. An additional 54 delegates are elected directly by voters – three in each congressional district.

Assuming Trump wins in California on June 7, he’ll be in a strong position to negotiate with unpledged delegates or former candidates such as Marco Rubio who has delegates committed to them. In Pennsylvania, about seven in 10 voters in Pennsylvania said the primary has energized the party rather than divided it, according to exit polls. Speaking to NBC’s “Today” Tuesday, as voters prepared to vote in five Northeastern states, Kasich insisted that his partnership with Cruz is not indication that he is giving up on his campaign.

Others say they like the sound of Kasich and Cruz working together – even alluding to a Kasich-Cruz ticket. “I think he should keep him thoughts to himself”, Taylor said.

The shaky agreement between Cruz and Kasich to collaborate against Trump is unlikely to help either of them. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Ohio Gov. John Kasich to argue that Trump is a weak and divisive front-runner.

Bernie Sanders and Jane Sanders won’t release their back tax returns until Democratic rival Hillary Clinton releases the transcripts of her Wall Street speeches, Jane Sanders said Tuesday afternoon. Can Trump sweep some states clean or will he leave delegates on the table? By contrast, Senator Marco Rubio unilaterally called on his supporters in March to back Kasich in OH in order to deny Trump a victory and finished with less than 3% of the vote; although his polling was so weak it’s hard to tell if the appeal made a difference.
