Officials say Prince had prescription painkillers on him-as well as elsewhere in his home-when he died last Thursday at the age of 57, CBS News reports.

An autopsy of Prince’s body was conducted just one day after he was found unresponsive in an elevator at his famed Paisley Park estate outside Minneapolis.
Sources have also said that Prince had struggled with an addiction to painkillers for years, revealing that it started back in 2009 while he had hip issues.
According to a new report from TMZ, one of the members of Prince’s siblings’ legal team has told the police investigating the singer’s death that he regularly abused cocaine and Percocet.
Mike informed the police that two of Prince’s half-siblings, Lorna and Duane, told him on separate occasions that Prince was addicted to cocaine and Percocet.
Either way, it may be weeks before we learn Prince’s cause of death.
“A Love Bizarre” by Sheila ESheila E’s other big hit also was written by and featured Prince’s background vocals.
Prince’s longtime lawyer, L. Londell McMillan, told the Associated Press Monday night that he spoke to Prince the Sunday before he died.
The legendary singer was found dead alone at his home and recording studio, Paisley Park, on April 21.
Prince’s relatives have urged media outlets to give them space to grieve.
There are “no real side effects or harm in giving it”, Yerkey said, even if medical tests later determine that the person’s condition wasn’t the result of opioid use. Prince was taken to a local hospital, while his publicist said at the time he was treated for flu-like symptoms.
A source very close to the situation told ET that Prince was battling the flu, which turned into walking pneumonia.

Paddon represented Duane Nelson, Prince’s half-brother, after Prince fired him. “I guess anything’s possible, but all I can tell you is that his sister independently corroborated every single thing Duane said to me”, he said.
