The team said Wednesday that Morton is scheduled for surgery Monday.
Morton will need six to eight months to recover, according to the Philadelphia Phillies.
Morton suffered the injury on Saturday while running to firstt base on a sacrifice bunt.
He is 1-1 with a 4.15 earned-run average in four starts.
Left-hander Adam Morgan has been called up from the IronPigs to take Morton’s place in the Phillies rotation. Unfortunately for the Phillies, it was appearing as though Morton was getting better and better with each start.
Morgan was beat out in Spring Training this year by Vince Velasquez who has been brilliant at times this season so far.
Morton will made $8 million on the disabled list this season, but will be a free agent this offseason.

Morton, a veteran of nine big league seasons, was acquired in a December trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates for minor league pitcher David Whitehead. The young southpaw has performed well in Lehigh Valley, with a 3.57 ERA through three starts. He has a $9.5 million club option for 2017 with a $1 million buyout.
