DPH officials were informed on Friday by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene that a CT man tested positive for the virus after returning from a trip to a Zika-affected area in the Caribbean. The effects of Zika on adults are usually minimal, with only one in five infected people showing any symptoms. Earlier this month, USA health officials confirmed that Zika does, in fact, cause birth defects. The first Zika case was confirmed in Brazil in May, and the virus has since spread predominantly in Latin and South America.

But with so much still unknown about Zika, it’s hard to say how much money is needed to get it under control.
She added: “It’s about following good practices and taking precautions like saying that if you are pregnant don’t go to the countries effected by Zika”.
They will also review progress in the development of Zika diagnostics and vaccines, according to the Institut Pasteur, which will host the science meeting over Monday and Tuesday. Of those, 33 have been among pregnant women. U.

The virus has been found to survive in the semen of infected men. Amidst fears of the virus reaching North America, the CDC has urged states to prepare for “widespread local transmission in the continental US”.
