The visit was the first of two scheduled for Sanders in IN as he attempts to bolster support during the last full week before the state’s primary.
Primary elections in five states Tuesday left Cruz incapable of winning enough delegates to secure the nomination.
Cruz made the announcement Wednesday afternoon.
“As I have said from the beginning, the most important attribute for any running mate is that he or she should be able to step in and fulfill the role as president, be the commander in chief, keep this country safe, and champion jobs, freedom and security”, Cruz said.
Looming over his race is the question of whether Mike Pence the Governor of IN will back Cruz, Trump or no one publicly. Trump’s tweet included the caption, “Agreed!”
Fiorina, a former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, announced her bid for the Republican nominee past year, but dropped out of the race following the New Hampshire primaries. She was sacked six years later, after leading a major merger with Compaq and laying off 30,000 workers. But Trump strengthened his standing this week with a sweep of five Northeast primaries, giving him 77 percent of the delegates he needs.
Trump later argued he was referring to her “persona”.
She was in the running for the Republican nomination for president.
Cruz referenced the incident during his comments Wednesday.
“Over and over again, Carly has shattered glass ceilings”, Cruz said in introducing his running mate.
In the Republican race, Cruz and Kasich are desperately trying to force a convention fight. “Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, they are two sides of the same coin”.
Democrats quickly attacked the Cruz-Fiorina alliance.

Fiorina has been a regular – and popular – presence on the Cruz campaign trail in recent weeks since she endorsed the Texas senator in early March.
