The New York real estate baron called himself “the presumptive nominee” as he celebrated knockout blows in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Rhode Island and Delaware.

The wins for Trump – following a massive victory last week in NY – move him significantly closer to the 1,237 delegates he needs to win the nomination outright heading into the convention in July. Though the clean sweep is expected to give a big boost to his White House ambitions, he would still fall a few hundred delegates short of the 1,237 required to bag the GOP presidential nomination.

Democrats award delegates proportionally, which allowed Clinton to maintain her lead over Sanders even as he rattled off a string of wins in recent contests.

Following her success on Tuesday, Clinton is now fewer than 300 delegates away from clinching the Democratic nomination.

Senator Sanders, speaking to a big crowd in Huntington, West Virginia, showed no signs of getting out of the race and said he was shedding light on inconvenient truths about how hard life was these days for some Americans. “And I know together we will get that done”. I said it is a good thing.

Donald Trump is going to be the Republican nominee.

“Today you probably saw that the Democrats have treated Bernie very badly and frankly I think he should run as an independent”, Trump said. Clinton won at least 72 delegates, boosting her total to 2,026, which includes pledged and superdelegates.

Cruz, seemingly acknowledging his poor showings later in the night, appeared in front of supporters in IN before the polls closed.

Kasich came second in four of the five States but could earn just five delegates. “That is why this campaign is going to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia with as many delegates as possible to fight for a progressive party platform”.

According to the Associated Press, Clinton has picked up 90 percent of the number of the delegates needed for the Democratic nomination.

More than half a million people cast their votes in our state’s presidential primary, choosing the candidate they want to be our next commander in chief.

Trump won all five. If he wins 50 percent of the remaining 622 delegates, he wins the nomination.
