Trump talks foreign policy; Cruz taps running mate
Ted Cruz, R-Texas, joined by former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, waves during a rally when Cruz announced he has chosen Fiorina to serve as his running mate. Declaring himself the presumptive nominee Tuesday night, Trump said Cruz would be “wasting his time” by naming a running mate.

“He is strategically using his masculinity to uphold his very male embodiment of a presidential candidate”, Ellingson said. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. speaks during a rally at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., Wednesday, April 27, 2016.
The Latest on the 2016 presidential campaign. A strong woman, willing to take on Donald Trump.
But the question is-will the move make a difference during the remaining primaries? And Wednesday’s announcement underscores the importance of Indiana’s May 3 primary.
“Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton both would be disastrous for this nation”, Fiorina said. Fiorina is well-positioned to attack Clinton and her gender-obsessed campaign, after all.
“They’re not going to challenge the system – they are the system”, she said.
Should Cruz win the nomination, Fiorina would be only the third woman on the ticket in a major United States political party, after vice presidential nominees Geraldine Ferraro in 1984 and Sarah Palin in 2008.
“From a tactical point of view, it expands Cruz’s bandwidth”, Wilson said. “Perhaps he’s doing us a favor by just laying out on the table and showing how real, how ugly and how pervasive it is in today’s America”. Unlike his rambunctious, freewheeling rallies, Trump read prepared remarks in a measured tone off a teleprompter.
He also used the address to target Clinton, his expected opponent in a general election. In her report, Jackson noted that a Cruz source indicated that the maneuver was more about “manipulat[ing] the narrative”, ahead of their blow-out losses on Tuesday.
Ive never seen such a combo of simplistic slogans and contradictions and misstatements in one speech, Albright said. “All the tough guys endorsed me”, Trump said, noting that he’s also been endorsed by ex-boxer and convicted rapist Mike Tyson. He claimed “nobody is getting to 1,237 delegates”, the number needed to clinch the nomination, and voters should “know what [they] will get”. He cast the unusual announcement as a way to give voters confidence in their choice if they vote for him. But because California Republicans award almost all of their 172 delegates by congressional district – three delegates each to the victor of each of 53 districts – beating the NY businessman in even a handful of districts could prevent him from obtaining the delegates necessary to secure the nomination.
Fiorina, a former CE0 of Hewlett Packard dropped out of the race for the White House following the New Hampshire Primary. It’s the first time a candidate has named a running mate prior to receiving the nomination since Ronald Reagan in 1976, the last time the GOP had a contested convention.

“Selecting Mrs. Fiorina as the running mate was a good choice not only because she is a highly-skilled and highly-credentialed leader, but also because it sets Senator Cruz’s campaign apart from the others”, Draper said, “I believe Senator Cruz chose Mrs. Fiorina because of her ability to clearly articulate conservative values”.
