Cruz’s VP Pick Carly Fiorina Breaks Into Song

Usually, US presidential candidates announce their prospective vice presidents only after clinching the party nomination. Ted Cruz announcing Carly Fiorina as his running mate – even though he’s mathematically unable to become the GOP nominee through the regular voting process.

The famously unlikable Cruz may also figure Fiorina helps soften his image.

“I know two girls that I just adore”, crooned Mrs Fiorina, in reference to Cruz’s two daughters, Caroline and Catherine.

But after Rubio dropped out and the field narrowed, the freshman lawmaker left little doubt about his preferences. Trump has won 77 percent of the delegates he needs to claim the nomination, and a win next week in IN will keep him on a firm path to do so.

In 2008, when it came time for John McCain to choose a Republican running mate, he assessed the political environment and chose to go with a bold, high-risk, high-reward pick.

Trump headed to Indiana Wednesday as well, following his address in Washington.

Perhaps Cruz figures that, because Fiorina polled decently in head-to-head matchups with Hillary Clinton, the duo can form a firewall against a Clinton presidency.

By announcing the choice in Indiana, Cruz is coalescing his anti-Trump strategy. “I’ve had tough fights all my life”, Fiorina said after Cruz introduced her. “Tough fights don’t worry me a bit”. He has referred to her on the campaign trail as “Crooked Hillary”. As it stands now, his only chance at winning the nomination is at a contested convention.

On Wednesday, Ted Cruz said he would be making a major announcement during an afternoon rally in Indianapolis, one day after he took a beating in the primaries of five states on the East Coast. “I’m so happy I can see them more. This is a Reagan idea where even though the guy he picked was the ‘patron saint of the pancreas, ‘ an utterly unobjectionable choice, this is a Ronald Reagan idea that did not work out for Ronald Reagan”.

Cruz noted the move to name a running mate was highly unusual at this stage in the campaign without having secured the nomination, but said he wanted to send a clear message and unite the party.

In Indiana, polls have shown that Cruz and Trump are in a tight battle. “So while Cruz competes in Indiana, Carly can spend time campaigning in California, where she really did very well”.

“Our job whether we win or whether we do not win is to transform not only our country but the Democratic Party, to open the doors of the Democratic Party to working people and young people and senior citizens in a way that does not exist today, ” Sanders said.

But after dropping out of the race in February and endorsing Cruz last month, Fiorina has papered over her criticisms by suggesting they were disagreements on strategy, not principle, according to CNN.
