Redskins Win The Josh Norman Sweepstakes

Norman ended up coming to terms with the Redskins for a five-year deal worth $75 million, the network reported. Norman’s new contract makes the highest paid cornerback in the National Football League, as his average income of $15 million per season is nearly a full million dollars more than the annual income of Arizona’s Patrick Peterson, who makes $14.1 million per season. But the Redskins flew him in on the team’s private jet with no intentions for letting him leave unsigned Friday.

In just two days, Josh Norman went from the outhouse to the penthouse. Now that he’s finally received the type of pay day he was fighting for, expect Norman to make an impact right away as one of the newest members of the Redskins.

Still, the package that Washington provided to Norman invites speculation as to whether Washington would have coughed up a third-round pick this year, or more, in order to trade for Norman. If not, the Redskins will likely lose all three of their top pass-catchers to free agency due to their now very limited options with their salary cap.

Ian Rapoport reports that the Panthers rescinded their franchise tag on Norman because it was too costly and that they need the cap space heading towards the 2016 NFL Draft to land potential deals and picks within the week.

Norman unexpectedly became a free agent this week after the Carolina Panthers rescinded their franchise tag offer to him. While a reunion for the Carolina Panthers might be the best hope for the team, our guess is that Norman might balk given what sounds like a seriously strained relationship.

It is also a secondary that also added experience strong safety David Bruton from the Super Bowl 50 champion Denver Broncos this offseason, as well as free-agent cornerback Greg Toler (Colts).

Norman had two defensive touchdowns and led all defensive backs in forced fumbles in 2015, when he was voted All-Pro.

Norman gives Washington an aggressive cornerback with an edge, particularly when he faced Odell Beckham Jr. of the New York Giants and Dez Bryant of the Dallas Cowboys last season.
