After people in India recovered from the frenzy of India’s cheapest smartphone- Freedom 251, that turned out to be a sham, Docoss X1 is grabbing eyeball.

The company had opened bookings on its website http://www.docoss.com and said registrations would close on April 29. The company announced to deliver the smartphone from May 2 onwards.

Based on a Facebook post, the company appears to be taking order via SMS, and has even asked users not to call on the number given.

Docoss X1 sports a 4-inch IPS display and is powered by a 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 dual-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM.

2 megapixel camera and a 0.2 megapixel front camera. The connectivity includes Dual SIM support and 3G Network. For Rs 888, the smartphone seems like a good deal – but is it for real? The handsets will be delivered from May 2.

The Freedom 251 flash sale took the entire nation by storm in late February with its Rs. 251 price for a high-end smartphone built with all the advanced features.

In order to avoid cases like Freedom 251, Mohindroo suggests a change in the consumer protection act is required to protect the interests of consumers. It also has 4GB internal storage, which can be increased to 32GB with a microSD card. The only positive note that we see here is that the newspaper ad shows a star mark note saying “Cash on Delivery”, so you don’t really need to pay upfront. Its website faced recurrent glitches after heavy traffic, and the handset prototypes revealed during its launch were from another Indian company Adcom, covered with white paint. The Docoss X1 can also be booked via SMS.

When enquired about the details of the company we got to know that it is based in the city of Jaipur, Rajasthan. It is supposed to run on the outdated Android 4.4 Kitkat OS. Much like Ringing Bells (the company which came up with Freedom 251), the authenticity of the company is not available. However, we couldn’t book the phone after repeated attempts on the website. It registered as Smartphone Seller Company under the name Docoss Multimedia Private Limited.
