There are many terms for a basketball goal – hoop, bucket, basket, rim, etc. – but “ring” generally isn’t one of them.

Look, Ted, if you’re going to misspeak about basketball on the campaign trail, just about the worst place you could do it is in Indiana. And it certainly isn’t a mistake you want to make in the basketball-crazed state of in when asking for votes in next week’s primary.

Trump will hold a rally in Indianapolis on Wednesday where he will be joined by famed former Indiana University basketball coach Bob Knight.

Mr Cruz acknowledged Mr Trump’s strong showing on Tuesday even though he was speaking before all the results from the northeastern states were in.

He ended with, “And there is nothing that Hoosiers can not do”.

Cruz is looking for an IN victory on Tuesday to block Trump from scoring a majority of delegates before the convention this summer.

If John Kasich or Bernie Sanders were smart, they’d hop on the opportunity to brag about both their basketball skill and grasp of basic terminology.

“As you all know, we’re here on the Hickory basketball court….”

Now that IN is playing the role of a crucial primary state for the first time IN forever, candidates are running the press to win over the hearts of good sports-loving Hoosiers.
