Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have shot dead two Palestinians at the Qalandia checkpoint between Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Two other knives were found in the boy’s belt, Samri said.

The soldiers later started firing gas bombs and concussion grenades on dozens of Palestinians in the area, in order to force them away.

Meanwhile, at least 29 Israelis were killed in shooting and stabbing attacks carried out by Palestinians, says Israel’s ministry of foreign affairs.

Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said the pair were “armed with knives” and “came towards the border guards” to attack them. The woman momentarily retreated, according to the police, but then suddenly spun around, took a butcher knife from her handbag and threw it at a nearby policeman.

The Jordanian official called on Israel to immediately stop such practices and prevent the settlers and Israeli forces from entering the yards of the mosque and allow the Palestinian worshipers to enter it.

Witnesses told Ma’an that nearly 130 Jewish Israelis raided the Aqsa compound under armed guard via the Moroccan gate in occupied East Jerusalem’s Old City.

The slain woman has been identified as Maram Saleh Abu Ismael, 24, a mother of two children; Sarah, 6, and Remas, 4.

Most of the Palestinians killed were carrying out knife, gun or car-ramming attacks, according to Israeli authorities.

More than half a million Jewish Israelis already live in more than 150 Jewish-only settlements across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, while Israeli military forces have erected several dozen checkpoints impeding Palestinians’ ability to move freely.

The names of the two assailants were not released by police, but both were said to be in their 20s and residents of Surif, a village in the central West Bank.

In September 2000, a visit to the flashpoint religious site by controversial Israeli politician Ariel Sharon sparked what later became known as the “Second Intifada”, a popular uprising against the Israeli occupation in which thousands of Palestinians were killed.
