With Donald Trump running swiftly toward the nomination, his closest rival, Senator Ted Cruz, tried to grab the spotlight by naming his vice-presidential nominee, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina.
“Last night was Donald Trump’s night”, Cruz said Wednesday while campaigning in Indianapolis. The former HP executive endorsed Cruz after dropping out of the race in February, saying that he was the only candidate with the potential to beat Trump.

Candidates typically wait until they’ve secured their party’s nomination before picking a running mate, in part to avoid appearing to be getting ahead of the will of the voters.
