Cespedes Has 6 RBIs During Mets’ Record 12-Run Inning Vs SF

By that point, the Mets had built up an insurmountable 12-0 lead, scoring a franchise-record 12 runs on eight hits, including Yoenis Cespedes’ grand slam, and four walks in the bottom of the third off Giants starter Jake Peavy and reliever Mike Broadway.

Cespedes went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and six RBI’s, including a grand slam in the third. A Michael Conforto double and Yoenis Cespedes single loosened the wheels, and Peavy was pulled after another walk and another single.

The San Francisco Giants and New York Mets collide tonight at 7:10PM ET.

There was no shortage of run support for left-hander Steven Matz (3-1), who earned his third consecutive win of the season by pitching six scoreless innings against the Giants. I mean, he’s trying so hard.

Texas’ Ian Desmond continued his batting surge with two hits, including the go-ahead double in a three-run sixth inning, as the Rangers beat the Angels 4-2.

The Mets’ previous biggest inning was an 11-run sixth in a 13-7 victory over the Cubs on July 16, 2006 at Wrigley Field. Butch Huskey held the previous team mark for RBIs in an inning with five against the Marlins in 1998. “I’m not OK with anything that’s happened”, Peavy said.

He delivered a pinch-hit, game-tying, three-run home run in Tuesday’s win over the Reds.

Matz had a third straight impressive start, lasting six shutout innings in which he allowed seven hits and three walks.

What’s much more unexpected is the offense’s.286 average, 29 homers and 5.9 runs per game during a 12-2 stretch that’s put the Mets one-half game back of first-place Washington in the division.

“One of those freaky things that you don’t ever expect to have against a team as good as the Giants”, Mets manager Terry Collins said.

They have now won six straight games as well and they will continue to build momentum this weekend vs the San Francisco Giants. San Francisco had won five of six.

DeGrom should feel comfortable back at Citi Field, where his career 1.86 ERA in 26 starts is the lowest at home by any Mets pitcher with at least 169 innings.

The Giants have an opportunity to measure themselves against the defending National League champions this weekend, when they visit NY for a three-game set.
